From the Canada School of Public Service: This timely event features Abdi Aidid, Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and co-author of The Legal Singularity: How Artificial Intelligence Can Make Law Radically Better. Professor Aidid will provide an overview of the current landscape of AI regulation in Canada and globally. The event will highlight key developments, emerging trends, and the diverse governmental approaches to balancing innovation with accountability.

October to December 2025. From the Canada School of Public Service: Regional Learning Days are tailored two-day in-person learning opportunities designed for federal public servants working in the different regions across Canada. Each day focuses on emerging trends, Government of Canada priorities, leading-edge ideas, and best practices that are relevant in the evolving government work environment.
December 9th 2025. From Global Government Forum: Featuring speakers from the Government Digital Summit - an annual gathering of national digital leaders - the event will provide insights, ideas and explanations for leaders in fields including policy, HR, finance, legal, commercial, researcg and operational delivery, alongside the core audience of digital and data specialists.
Releases
The objective of the 2023 to 2026 ESDC Data Strategy is to bring ESDC further along the path towards achieving better services and outcomes for all Canadians. The Strategy aims to empower departmental employees to collectively treat data as enterprise assets, grounded in a culture of data stewardship and collaboration, that spans across policy analysis and research through to evaluation and reporting back to Canadians.
On Friday, 3 October 2025, the Office of the Chief Science Advisor (OCSA) released a new framework for governing scientific data in Canada, underscoring the importance of data as a valuable national asset. Towards a National Scientific Data Governance Framework presents recommendations to strengthen scientific data governance for improved research outcomes and benefits to Canadians.
The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC) released an updated edition of its globally-recognized De-Identification Guidelines for Structured Data. The newly expanded guidelines will help organizations maximize the benefits of data while protecting privacy. Drawing on the expertise of world leading scholars and practitioners, the new guidelines provide clear, practical tools for applying de-identification confidently, effectively, and responsibly.
Read the report from Auditor General Karen Hogan tabled in the House of Commons which concludes that the Government of Canada had tools in place to protect its networks and systems from cyber threats, but important gaps remain in cyber security defence services, monitoring and response during active cyber attacks.

The Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat, Office of the Chief Data Officer of Canada, Information and Data Governance Division, is looking for volunteers to review and provide feedback on the draft Guidance for Data Reference (DRS) Stewards. We are seeking feedback from individuals in the information and data field, including those with prior experience with data stewards. We would also love to hear from you if you don't have any data experience but feel that you've gor something to contribute. Your insights will help us better describe the roles and responsibilities of DRS stewards, supporting data standardization and interoperability in the GC.

Environment and Climate Change Canada launched The Plastics Data Community of Practice in September under the Plastics Data Framework, which aims to make plastics data more FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) and position the Government of Canada as an authoritative source. The CoP fosters collaboration, knowledge sharing, and standardization to tackle plastics data challenges. A dedicated GCXchange page now hosts meeting notes, resources, and updates.
